News Letter January 2012

Presentation Evening:-

The Falcon Presentation evening held at Rolls-Royce Leisure on 29th Dec was a great success, everyone appeared to enjoy themselves. Congratulations to all swimmers that received medals and trophies, well done to all swimmers for the fantastic efforts you put into your training during 2011.

Congratulations to Lisa Davey who was voted Personality of the Year. This was for all the time and hard work Lisa puts in collecting the money at every session, this takes up five evenings per week, “well done and thank you very much Lisa”

Coaching:-

I am sure you will all join the committee in thanking our team of coaches, for all the great work and commitment they continue to put in, they work so hard at poolside and behind the scenes.

Angela Waldram has decided to reduce the amount time she can commit to the club as a coach, giving her more time to commit to her daughters swimming development. Please join the committee in thanking Angela for all of the time and effort she has put into the club over the time that she has been involved with Falcon swimming club.

The committee is very pleased to welcome Glyn Catton who is returning to the club coaching on Sunday evenings.

Since our Head Coach Calum Lawson moved to Norfolk the committee have been actively seeking to fill the position of Head Coach but this is proving to be difficult, this said we are exploring all possibilities. Thank you to Ian Melvin and Angela Waldram for carrying out the role of Head Coach until Christmas 2011.

Poolside:-

You will see some young people helping with coaching at poolside, these are swimmers that have already achieved a high standard in their own swimming development and are looking to pass on their skills to younger swimmers.

Some of them are taking part in the Duke of Edinborough award scheme and others looking to become coaches at some point in the future.

Attendance:-

Attendance awards will be given out on a school term basis to the highest attendees of the Development and Blue squads, as the swimmers in these squads will not be able to win the clubs annual attendance award due to the limited sessions they are able to attend. The committee feel that the swimmers commitment to attendance in these squads should be recognised.

Pool Sessions:

We are currently seeking to obtain pool sessions that will be more suitable to swimmers and parents, in addition to the Friday and Sunday session that we currently have. We have a session at Hucknall on Wednesday evening from 9pm to 10pm for Pink and Red squads. This session is not well attended due to the late time and being a school evening.

Tuck Shop:-

Lisa Davey is running a Tuck shop at the paying desk on Fridays and Sundays, the funds raised from this and a raffle she held late last year will not go to club funds but will pay for the children to take part in an activity which they will be able to decide upon. If you have any questions or ideas regarding this please speak to Lisa.

Request for help:-

As you can appreciate running Falcon swimming club is not an easy task, the club would welcome any help that parents / carers are able to give in the running of the club.

Help is always needed in areas such as: - Poolside sessions / Time keeping / Club Championships / Galas / Fund raising and Social events. Should you be able to offer any much needed help, no matter how small please contact myself, any member of the committee or the coaching team.

There is also a suggestion box available on Friday and Sunday evenings, this is at the pay desk.

The club would like to wish a warm welcome to all recent new members.

Thank you to Dave Holland for volunteering to be Gala Co-ordinator.

Thank you to you all on behalf of the club for your continued support of Falcon swimming club.

Kind regards

Gordon Gunn (Falcon Secretary)
